A message from John Enright, ASIS Providence Public Safety Liaison & Communications Officer

Providence Chapter ASIS

Announcement:

Chapter Launches State-Wide Operation Cooperation

All Chapter members should take note of this new initiative being started by your ASIS leadership. The goal is to foster new avenues of cooperation, communication and information sharing with law enforcement, emergency management agencies and the private sector throughout the State of RI. In the past we have established operation cooperation partnerships successfully with the Cities of Providence and Warwick, RI. To build on those partnerships, become more inclusive of the entire state and to re-invigorate our monthly chapter meetings, the Providence Chapter is going to sponsor six meetings a year that will also become our State-Wide bi-monthly Operation Cooperation meetings.

In furthering our reach around the state, we are looking to have relevant state agencies and other strategically located private and public organizations sponsor meetings at their locations so that we all can become familiar with each other as well as what we all do. Operation Cooperation meetings around the state will benefit all of us in our various roles and organizations and increase our reach and exposure outside of the metropolitan Providence area. The first meeting will be sponsored by the RI Emergency Management Agency and its Executive Director David Smith at their headquarters on New London Avenue in Cranston RI. Potentially our meetings will have representatives of local police, state police, local and state emergency management agencies as well as all of us who work in many different security roles around the state.

Meetings will hopefully become more meaningful with interesting speakers from both the public and private sectors but more importantly it will provide us all with the opportunity to develop strong relationships with our public sector partners in local and state government. The relationships we build will serve to open lines of communications, share critical information and eventually build an Operation Cooperation State-Wide organization that will be a strong resource for us, the State and all of our cities and towns.

The success of this initiative lies squarely on the shoulders of our membership to support Operation Cooperation and our monthly meetings. ASIS business will still be addressed at our meetings but we will now also be able to address significant issues that affect both the private and public sectors state-wide. We believe that our State-Wide Operation Cooperation may be the first of its kind in our country. Please jump on board with this new initiative and demonstrate to the state the importance of our role in emergency preparedness, crime prevention and the safety of all our citizens.
